Goin' Down South - 2007
In 2007 we set out on our second trip to the Deep South of the United States. We traveled through Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas and lost our selves in the stirring history and the culture of this beautiful region.
In many ways though one is remembered of the painful history of the South: the deep wounds of the Civil War and the system of slavery and systematical oppression.
Only a few decades ago Mississippi and Alabama in particular were the scene of a civil rights struggle with volent events that shook the world. In the sixties president John F. Kennedy , Martin Luther King and so many other innocent people fell victim to racist and political violence.
And there's also the poverty and the big role religion plays in the South, elements that make this region very special.
And of course.... there's the blues. At festivals and in juke joints there's plenty to enjoy, because the blues is live and kicking.
